Can AI edit my whole thesis at once?

Yes. Upload the complete thesis as one Word (.docx) file, up to 150,000 words and 45 MB, and it is edited section by section: front matter, chapters, footnotes, captions, tables, and the reference list. LaTeX (.tex) theses work on Monthly and Yearly plans.

One upload keeps spelling, hyphenation, and capitalization consistent from the abstract to the appendices. Edits average 5 to 10 minutes; a long thesis can take longer.

Is it allowed to use an AI editor on my thesis?

It depends on your university, and sometimes on your department. Many universities allow AI tools for correcting errors but not for rewriting or generating text. Read your institution's policy on AI and on proofreading before you upload, and ask your supervisor if it is unclear.

If your policy limits AI to corrections, choose Proofreading Only: it corrects errors and does not rewrite. Light and Full Editing improve readability and flow, which a strict policy may not allow. What will an AI thesis edit change, and what will it leave alone?

At the default Proofreading Only level, the editor leaves your argument, structure, results, and terminology alone, is designed to keep quotations from your sources as they are, and keeps Zotero, Mendeley, and EndNote citation fields live. Like any AI, it can make mistakes, so review each tracked change. What it does correct:

• Spelling, grammar, and punctuation, in US or UK English

Can I just proofread my thesis instead of editing it?

Yes, and it is the default. Proofreading Only corrects errors and checks style and citations, with no rewriting: only errors are corrected. Choose Light Editing to tighten wordy sentences, or Full Editing to improve flow, tone, and diction. All three levels cost the same, so the choice comes down to how much change you, your supervisor, and your university's policy allow.

Which referencing styles does it follow?

Nine: APA 7, MLA 9, Harvard (Cite Them Right), Chicago 18 Author-Date, Chicago 18 Notes-Bibliography, OSCOLA 5, IEEE, Vancouver, and AMA 11. Harvard is common in UK and Australian theses, OSCOLA in UK law, APA 7 in the social sciences and education, IEEE in engineering, and Vancouver and AMA in medicine and health. Paid plans can also use a Custom style when your school has its own.

Does it check that my in-text citations match my reference list?

Yes. The edit cross-checks in-text citations against the reference list and flags citations with no entry and entries that are never cited. You can also run the check on its own, without editing anything, and cross-reference reports don't count against your allowance.

How is this different from Grammarly, Paperpal or ChatGPT?

Is my unpublished research kept private?

Your thesis is encrypted in transit and at rest. To perform the edit, the text is processed by the third-party AI providers that perform the edit. Documents are never sold, RightMyWork never trains AI models on them, and files are stored in the EU. The uploaded original is deleted when the edit finishes, and the edited file is deleted after 24 hours on the free tier or 14 days on a plan.

How do I review the tracked changes in Word?

Word shows each edit as a tracked change you can accept or reject, one at a time or all at once.

• Open the edited .docx in Microsoft Word and select the Review tab.
• Set the markup view to All Markup to see every insertion and deletion.
• Use Next to move through the changes, choosing Accept or Reject for each.
• Read the editor comments in the margin, then delete them when you are done.
• Save a clean copy with no tracked changes for submission, and keep the tracked file as your record.

What AI can't do for your thesis

An AI editor works on language, not on scholarship. It cannot judge whether your argument holds, whether your contribution is original, whether your methods suit your question, or whether you have read the right literature. It does not know your field the way your supervisor and examiners do, and like any AI it can make mistakes, including a change that alters a technical meaning.

Use it to remove errors and inconsistencies so your readers can focus on the ideas. Keep the judgment about substance with you and your supervisor, and review every tracked change before you accept it.
