How do you count words?

We count body text, footnotes, endnotes, headers, footers, text boxes, table cells, and equations. Comments, tracked-change deletions, and hidden text are excluded. We use our own word counter, and your bill is based on its count.

Will my card be charged automatically?

Accepted Answer

Never. A plan is one payment for one period: 30 days on Monthly, 365 days on Yearly. When it ends, it simply lapses — there is no card on file, no auto-renewal, and nothing to cancel. Renewing is always your choice.

How does the free tier work?

Accepted Answer

New accounts start with 20,000 words of editing, shown as 4 credits of 5,000 words, across up to 4 documents. Each document uses whole credits rounded up (a 3,000-word essay uses 1 credit; a 12,000-word chapter uses 3), and the full document is always edited. Free edited documents are delivered locked: you get a summary immediately, and unlocking any document costs $5, permanently.

What do the plan allowances mean?

Monthly includes 25 documents and 400,000 words per rolling 30 days; Yearly includes 30 documents and 500,000 words per rolling 30 days. A document counts each time you run it through the editor; cross-reference reports never count, and failed or cancelled edits never count. The window rolls continuously — no reset day. These ceilings are far above heavy individual use; they exist to keep personal plans personal.

What happens if my document is bigger than my allowance?

No partial edit is ever performed. If a document exceeds your remaining free credits or plan window, you'll see the exact numbers before processing and nothing is deducted.

What file formats do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept Word (.docx) and LaTeX (.tex) files up to 45 MB and 150,000 words per upload. Word documents come back as DOCX with tracked changes, compatible with Microsoft Word and Google Docs. LaTeX uploads come back as an edited .tex plus a marked-up version and a Word review copy. Credits on any plan can be spent across multiple uploads, so book-scale work on Volume or Custom is edited part by part.

Can I get a refund?

Refund requests on plans are reviewed individually; a refund on a partly used period may be reduced to reflect the time or allowance already used. The $5 document unlock is non-refundable once the unlocked file is available, because delivery is immediate and permanent. Do you offer student discounts?

Our pricing is already designed to be student-affordable. Monthly costs $15 — a full month of dissertation editing for less than a pizza — and Yearly brings it down to $10 a month, paid once. Every plan works on any manuscript, academic or not.
